On 2nd June in Italy the Republic Day will be celebrated on the same date in which in 1946 through a constitutional referendum Italy became a Democratic Republic.
The official events are held in Rome. The official ceremony of the celebrations includes the solemn raising of the flag at the Altare della Patria and the ceremonial laying of a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by the President of Italy and with the highest offices in the state.
The following information refer to the official press release issued by the Presidenza della repubblica to inform you about the programme of the Republic Day on 2nd June.
The celebrations will begin on Wednesday 1st June at 3,30 pm when the Changing of the Guard at the Quirinal Palace is performed in its solemn form by the Corazzieri Regiment and by the mounted band of the Carabinieri 4th Cavalry Regiment, with the guards wearing their ceremonial uniforms and riding horses.
On Thursday, 2nd June the ceremony will begin at 9.15 am at the Altare della Patria where a laurel wreath will be laid. After, in the wonderful location offered by the Roman Forum, there will be the traditional parade with the highest offices in the state.
At the Giardini del Quirinale at 3.oo pm there will be the concert of the bands of the Air Force, the Navy, the Guardia di Finanza, the Italian Army, the State Police and the Corps of Carabinieri.
